A new editorial board for Neo-Lithics

At the 11th International Conference on PPN Chipped and Ground Stone Industries (PPN 11), held in Jalès/Ardèche, France, a new editorial board for Neo-Lithics was established. The new team takes over the publication after the long stewardship of Hans Georg K. Gebel and the most recent editorial team based at Heidelberg/Propylaeum.

We are committed to maintaining the high research quality and standards that the founding editors and previous editorial teams have ensured over the years — standards that have shaped Neo-Lithics into an integrative and independent forum for scholarly exchange, stimulating academic cohesion and offering publication opportunities beyond the conventional ones.

From 2026, under the new editorial team, Neo-Lithics continues as an open-access online publication. Accepted papers appear online continuously — as soon as each is reviewed and edited — rather than being held for annual publication. At the end of each year, the papers that have appeared online during the preceding twelve months are compiled into the annual volume. We are also exploring ways to bring Neo-Lithics back into printed format alongside the open-access online edition.

In the coming months we will continue to develop this online space, introducing new sections for current research on the Neolithic of Southwest Asia, and inviting submissions through new formats designed especially for early-career researchers.

Submissions are open — continuous publication

Neo-Lithics now operates a continuous, rolling submission model. Each contribution undergoes individual peer review and is published online as soon as it is accepted, without waiting for a full volume to be assembled. The annual printed volume is then compiled at the end of each year from the papers that have appeared online during the preceding twelve months.

We welcome contributions across the full breadth of the publication's scope, including:

• Field reports and short research articles on the Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic of Southwest Asia
• Special issues and thematic series — proposals from conference organisers and guest editors are warmly invited
• PhD and early-career research highlights — summaries of newly defended theses and ongoing projects
• Discussion pieces, methodological notes, and book reviews

We particularly encourage submissions from early-career and young researchers. New formats currently being developed are described on the submissions page.
